The Pool Isn’t a Runway. It’s a Workout.

Sure, people notice. But swimmers? They’re usually counting laps.

Swimmers at the pool wearing competitive swimwear

If you're new to the pool or you're a master swimmer returning. Looking at our lead image might make you smile.

You might think our swimmer is thinking about how he looks or you might think the woman is checking him out? Maybe. But most likely not.

But if you’ve spent enough time around serious swimmers, you know something else is probably happening:

He’s thinking about his workout.

There’s always a lot of discussion about what to wear around the pool. Brief or no brief? One-piece or two-piece? High-waisted? Open-back? More coverage? Less?/p>

Swimmers tend to have a much simpler philosophy:

Wear what works. Get in. Get the workout done.

Maybe that means a men's Speedo 1.5-inch brief. Maybe a Speedo Solar brief. Maybe an Arena Men's Feel brief. Pick your favorite pattern, your favorite color, the support you want and the fit that feels right.

And if you're a woman, there are plenty of great shape-enhancing suits, athletic two-pieces and open-back designs that look fantastic while still letting you move.

Competitive swimwear and poolside fitness

The point is simple: wear what makes you comfortable.

Some people wouldn't change a thing about the way they look. Others maybe so.

When it comes to a suit some want a little more support, a little more coverage or a suit that makes them feel better about themselves. All of that is perfectly fine.

And if you're really looking for eye contact at the pool, you may find a lot less than you expect.

Swimmers are looking at a lot of things, generally they are not comparing.

They're looking at the pace clock.

The wall.

The lane line.

Their coach.

Their next interval.

Or they're just trying to remember whether they're on 7 or 8 of 10.

After a certain age, you might think a little more about how you look. That's natural. But confidence doesn't always mean covering up.

Sometimes confidence is simply being comfortable in your own skin.

So pick the suit you like.

Pick the color.

Pick the pattern.

Pick the support.

Then jump in.

Because the pool isn't a runway.

It's a workout.
